February 17-24, 2007, 7 nights, 6 days, $995 per person
February 17, 2007: Your bilingual naturalist guide will meet you at the
airport and take you to Hotel Don Carlos in San Jose.
February 18: After breakfast, you'll travel throu
February 19: Hike to birding tower in the Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve,
where which has a 360 degree view of the sea to the west and the Talamanca
mountains to the east. Have a lunch at the lodge near the tower. Overnight at
El Yue, all meals included.
February 20: Travel to the Sixaola River, where you will board a dugout
canoe, skillfully guided by BriBri boatmen into the Yorkin river, and
downstream to the village of Yorkin. Take a dip in the river, then enjoy a
traditional BriBri lunch. The women of Yorkin will show you how they cultivate
and process cacao (chocolate), the sacred crop of the BriBri. there will be
plenty of time to get to know the members of the community, who are working to
preserve their natural and cultural heritage. You'll stay at thier rustic
lodge, lulled to sleep by the sound of the rushing river. All meals included.
February 21: Swim underneath a waterfall, learn more about how the BriBri
work in harmony with nature. After lunch, return by dugout. Stay at La Costa de Papito, comfortable bungalows surrounded by exuberant
tropical gardens, near Playa Cocles, south of Puerto Viejo. Meals: breakfast
and lunch.
February 22: Travel down the coast to the village of Manzanillo, where you will search dolphins and do some snorkeling. Relax at the beach in the afternoon or go shopping for souvenirs in the town of Puerto Viejo. Meals included: breakfast. February 23: After a leisurely morning, return to San Jose and the Hotel Don Carlos. Meals included: breakfast. February 24: Fly home, or stay on for other Costa Rican adventures.
