Saturday, July 26

Your ACTUAR guide will meet you at the Liberia airport and drive you to Arenal volcano, where you'll stay at a lodge with a great view of the volcano's active side.

Sunday, July 27

After a leisurely breakfast, do the 10:30 a.m. Costa Rica Sky Adventures Canopy Tour, with an electric tram that takes you up to the platform, and great views of the rainforest and volcano. In the afternoon, learn more about the volcano from your guide. At 5 p.m. you'll go to Ecotermales for a relaxing time in the natural hot springs and dinner.

Monday, July 28

Get up early to glide effortlessly down the Peñas Blancas river, with local guides who will point out monkeys, sloths, birda and frogs. Stop for a traditional Costa Rican snack at Don Pedro's farm. In the afternoon, help feed the rescued wild animals at the Asis Project in La Fortuna.

Tuesday, July 29

After breakfast head to the Nosara area. Stop for lunch at the Casa del Sol to see how local women cook using solar energy and visit the pottery makers at Guaitil .

Wednesday, July 30

A relaxing day at the beach

Thursday, July 31

Spend the day hiking in the Lagarta Reserve. The new moon is on August 8th. Olive Ridley turtles often come in large numbers to the Ostional beach to lay their eggs in the week before the new moon. This evening you will go to Ostional beach, where you will learn about marine turtles, and hopefully see them laying their eggs (optional—depends on if there is turtle activity). Return to the hotel.

Friday, August 1

After a relaxed breakfast, head to the town of Jicaral, where you will be taken to the trail head for your 90 minute hike to Cerro Escondido Lodge. Cerro Escondido is located in a mountain rainforest reserve that protects the sources of the four rivers that supply water to the Nicoya Peninsula. It is part of a biological corridor that connects forests up and down the peninsula. Enjoy a delicious country-style lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, plant some trees to help this grassroots community conservation initiative.

Saturday, August 2

Go on an early morning birding hike if you'd like. After breakfast, hike down to beautiful Velo de Novia falls and swim in the crystalline waterfall pools. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the falls. Hike back to the lodge for dinner.

Sunday, August 3

Breakfast at Cerro Escondido, then hike down and drive to Puerto San Pablo, where you will be picked up by the valiant women of Isla de Chira. They will take you on a boat tour of the mangroves where you will see aquatic birds, caimans and perhaps a crocodile. They only allow traditional fishing methods on their protected reef, and thus have seen a resurgence in fish stocks. Have a delicious seafood lunch at their restaurant. In the afternoon, play soccer with the locals or get to know the families of La Amistad Lodge

Monday, August 4

Visit the local school, have lunch, then boat back to Puerto San Pablo by way of Isla Paloma, where many sea birds come to nest. Your guide will drive you to hotel in Liberia, about 2 hours away. Say goodbye to your guide.

Tuesday, August 5

Breakfast at your hotel and taxi departure to Liberia International Airport. Fly home with happy memories of Costa Rica
